A few days back we had reported that many users were furious over the low internal storage on the latest flagship device from Samsung, the Galaxy S4.
When the device was initially launched there were supply problems with the 32GB and 64GB versions of the device, so
many users had to be satisfied with the 16GB version. However, the so called 16GB internal storage after all the heavy
applications from the company only left the users with 8.5GB of storage.
Now, we all know, given the power and the capability of the device and the various heavy duty apps/ games available online,
8.5GB is not a figure that S4 users would be happy about.
Eventually the issue had reached Samsung and they had defended their product saying that the S4 featured some innovative apps and software which were
on the heavy side and hence they used up a lot of memory. Moreover, the company added that users could use MicroSD card
to expand their memory.
Naturally, users weren’t happy with the reply as even though they could use external MicroSD card, they couldn’t actually transfer apps to it. And just when we thought users may have
to live with this problem, the company officials have finally agreed to look into the matter. Now, this is what the users
were waiting to hear and hopefully, a future software update from the company
may free up some useful space on the device.
Samsung’s statement to CNET over the issue was as follows:
“We appreciate this issue being raised and we will improve our communications, also, we are reviewing the possibility to
secure more memory space through further software optimisation.”
“Samsung is committed to listening to our customers and responding to their needs
as part of our innovation process.”
A day earlier, the company in
collaboration with Google released a Google edition of the S4 running on stock android and it would be interesting to see how much internal memory will be
available on the device. Well, we don’t have to wait for long as the device is all set to release next month.
